ccraft02ANNVILLE - Colonial Craft Kitchens is looking for your vote for its elegant French-style kitchen that is entered in HGTV's Top 10 Amazing Kitchens contest.

Jerry Hoffsmith, Colonial Craft owner who designed the kitchen for a central Pennsylvania client, said he was contacted by the show's producer.

"It's a gourmet-functioning workable kitchen that has a ton of form too," Hoffsmith said.

He thought the project, which he finished at the end of 2006, would be a good candidate, and the producer agreed, selecting it as the French-style kitchen in the group. They spent a day filming a month ago.

It's not the biggest kitchen job Hoffsmith said he's done in his 25 years in the business, but it has some unique features, like the use of imported European iron hardware, which was antiqued a light rust.

The kitchen cabinetry has pink glaze with a mottled finish, heavy applied molding and raised panel doors with beaded inset. The project includes a kitchen with two islands that extends into a wet bar and entertainment area, in a space about 30-by-60 feet.

One island has a prep area and sink, refrigerator drawer, 30-inch cooktop and dishwasher; and the other has two 30-inch wall ovens and warming drawer, that overlooks a dining bar through an open archway.

There are also two Sub Zero refrigerators hidden behind cabinetry, two pullout pantries, a microwave, 48-inch rangetop, sink and another dishwasher.

Granite countertops and pillowed French limestone floor tile complete the area. The project also has a wet bar with wine cooler; and an area with bookcases, shelves and an entertainment center.

Hoffsmith said the client didn't want the home's location revealed, and he didn't want to reveal the project cost. "People buy homes for less than what that kitchen cost," he said.

Hoffsmith said most of his work is in central Pennsylvania, although he's done some in Chicago and shipped work to Latvia. "We do estate homes and mom-and-dad jobs, too."

Hoffsmith said the homeowner liked his original design concept, which he came up with before even meeting with the clients. "This was a grand slam for me," he said.

"We've been in national magazines with other projects, but this is our first on TV, so this is pretty cool for us," Hoffsmith said.

In the '90s, Colonial Craft Kitchens placed second in the nation in a competition sponsored by the national Kitchen and Bath Association, and received awards for kitchens and baths in area Parade of Homes and Home-a-rama events.
